Irati Film, during its premiere weekend, has achieved some excellent numbers regarding the amount of spectators it has driven to the theaters. The movie by Paul Urkijo, even though it was only distributed 112 copies along all of Spain, made its way to the list of the most watched movies during its debut weekend.

So much so, it became the best performing premiere movie in Basque of all time. Moreover, Irati Film was also the #1 movie in the Basque Country during the weekend.

Without a doubt, very positive numbers which lead to some optimism regarding the upcoming weeks. It seems we’ll have Irati in the theaters for quite some time. Don’t miss it!

Alava born Paul Urkijo assisted on Friday February 17th to the premiere of its second film, Irati, at the Golem Baiona movie theater in Pamplona.

By his side were actors Iñigo Aranbarri, Patxi Bisquert & Elena Uriz, as well as the kid Leire Indurain, among others, among other team members which consisted of many people from Navarra. This is the case for Sara Mazkiaran, direction assistant, or Mikel Serrano, art director.

This past February 16th, the cast of Irati attended the diverse media channels that were present for the promotional act of the movie previous to its premiere in theaters on February 24th. The event took place at the “Cines Princesa” in Madrid.

Its director, Paul Urkijo and the three main characters: Eneko Sagardoy, Edurne Azkarate & Itziar Ituño conceded interviews to the various reporters that were there and answered all their questions regarding the movie.

Irati started its premiere touring and presentations before its official release in theaters last February 14th, in Vitoria. It was a very special event, because Vitoria is the city where its director, Paul Urkijo, was born and raised. In the same way, Edurne Azkarate is also from Alava. The premiere was blessed with the presence of them both and also the movie’s main character, Eneko Sagardoy.

The event was a success, as the theater was packed with around 440 people which enjoyed the movie before anyone else. After the projection, people gave a long ovation and round o applause, as everyone present seemed to have really liked what they had seen.

IRATI, by Paul Urkijo, confirms its bid to become one of the most important movies of the year in Spain. After its success in all festivals the movie was presented (winning the Audience Award in all of them, as well as others) now it has been recognized by the Spanish Movie Academics with five nominations to the 2023 Goya Awards.

Specifically, the movie received nominations in the following categories:

• Best Adapted Screenplay (Paul Urkijo)
• Best Costume Design (Nerea Torrijos)
• Best Visual Effects (Jon Serrano & David Heras)
• Best Original Music (Maite Arroitajauregi & Aránzazu Calleja)
• Best Original Song (Aránzazu Calleja, Maite Arroitajauregi & Paul Urkijo Alijo

On February 11th, the Goya Awards Ceremony will take place, and then we will find out whether IRATI wins these five prizes.

IRATI, a film by Paul Urkijo, leaves its mark in yet another festival. Last week it was time to present the movie in Isla Calavera (Tenerife) where it received great praise and won the audience award for best film. Again.
The movie was projected twice. Firstly, on November 20th at 8.00pm with the presence of its director, Paul Urkijo, who offered a brief presentation speech before the movie and held a little Q&A afterwards. The second one took place on November 21st at 5.45pm.
On Saturday November 26th, the festival held a press conference where they announced the winners. It started at 12.30pm and there they revealed that the basque film had won the audience winner for best movie.
An award that allows Irati to continue with its award winning streak at all festivals so far.

The Basque movie IRATI, by Paul Urkijo, continues its path through different festivals. Last week, it was time for Malaga Festival, where it received yet another great welcoming.

IRATI was projected twice during the festival. The first time was on Saturday, November 12^th with the presence of Paul. After the movie, the director answered questions from all the attendants in what was a very entertaining Q&A. The second projection took place on Sunday, November 13^th.

On Thursday, November 17^th the closing & the awards ceremony took place. IRATI was one of the biggest winners of the night, receiving three awards:

1. Public award to the best movie.
2. “Gato Rabioso” award from the accredited press to the best movie.
3. Official Jury award to the best VFX.

With these three awards, Irati continues its festivals winning streak, confirming itself as one the national movies with better odds to do well in theatres.

The awards ceremony for the Donostia Horror Festival took place on Friday November 4th. IRATI started the day as a heavy favorite to win the audience award, as it had a big advantage in the voting count. Finally, the news were confirmed during the press conference offered by the festival at 11.30am.

Paul Urkijo (director) was the one to receive the award. He took the stage to pick it up and gave a warm and fun speech, which was applauded by everyone at the theatre the way it deserved. The ceremony took place at 8.00pm, right before IRATI’s last projection, which was the concluding point to a festival full of unforgettable memories.
